Who Do I Work With?
Individuals, Families & Couples

  • How I Work

We'll address your immediate concerns with simple goals and changes, and then when you're ready, we'll look at your past. Looking at your past can help us see where your learned behaviors come from and why you react the way you do to certain experiences and people.

I am here to help you - not judge you.

I practice from a ‘psychodynamic orientation’ which means that I believe looking at our past can help us see where our learned behaviors come from, shed some light on why we react to certain experiences/people and aid us in better understanding ourselves. I have experience working from a ‘cognitive behavioral’ model, which means we can set some goals and develop specific skills to help you change negative thinking and behavior patterns.

  • Working With Families

I am the co-director of the family program at Psychological Care and Treatment center, working directly with families whose loved one is in treatment and/or struggling with mental health. I do not gravitate towards a ‘tough love’ approach, but instead helping families find a form of support that works for them - setting boundaries, improving communication, getting more education on thei loved ones diagnosis, understanding we are all part of a system that makes up a family, helpful family members recognize their dynamic in the family system - is it helping? Is it healthy? Is it working?

When working with parents, I utilize an ‘attachment focus,’ which can help you understand your child’s experience and reflect on the impact of your relationship with them.

  • Working with Couples

I take a psychodynamic approach to explore one’s past and childhood to better understand why you are the partner you are today. Are you trying to repeat their childhood experiences? Are you actively wanting to swing the pendulum the opposite direction because you are actively trying to do something different to how you were raided? Is it a new concept to look at your past as a way of understanding who you are today?

Together we will explore why we get triggered by specific things and or behaviors. Ask what is it about that trigger, is it something from our past? And what is the feeling linked to it?

I don’t have the answers.
But I do own a flash light.
And I’m honored to walk along the path beside you, and hopefully shine a light as we notice things along the way together.

My take on therapy…

EDMR: Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a mental health treatment technique.

This method involves moving your eyes a specific way while you process traumatic memories. EMDR's goal is to help you heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences.

As a regular talk therapist, I worked for years with clients who would identify some form of hardship or trauma in their lives. I was struggling with how to support them because just talking about the trauma, was re-traumatizing. So I decided to train in and learn about the practice of EDMR to better serve my clients. EMDR is an effective modality for trauma processing. It gets the mind to places that regular talk therapy wouldn’t get to, because it’s tapping in to our neural pathways that are connected to the trauma.
